Magnetic Valve 

Purpose:

This project was done in an effort to expand the companies "smart dispensing technologies". This valve, because it uses magnets to control the flow, is non-intrusive, making it less susceptible to leakage over time.

Process: 

These are the original sketches for the design. I purposed that the first version would use physical magnets and a more advanced version would use electromagnets. This way, a button could eventually replaced the lever arm.

This drawing shows a section view of the final version of the valve.

The steel ball moves with the magnet. When the magnet is in the down position, the ball is forced against the gasket. When the magnet is in the up position, the ball is lifted off the gasket, allowing liquid to flow through the hole in the gasket. 

This video shows how the steel ball moves with the magnet. 

Result:

The above video shows the final working valve with beer flowing though it. This valve is non-invasive and thus less likely to leak over time due to wear. The design is compact and adaptable to many handle designs.
